Theodore is a rural community with services that are comparable to a small community. The photo is of our show grounds which is famous amongst travellers for the best amenity blocks and powered sites anywhere. If you do not need a powered site, then the Junction may suit your needs better, nestled in between Castle Creek and the Dawson River.
During the winter months, the town experiences a surge in its population with travellers. Winter is also a time of more illness. These two factors result in an increase need and utilisation of health services. There is routinely one doctor on 24 hour call for both the Medical Centre and the Hospital with a second, at times, providing on-call backup. As a result, consideration of these circumstances is appreciated.

- The Theodore Hospital is located in the Boulevard, next to the Ambulance Centre.
- The Theodore Medical Superintendent’s Queensland Health duties are limited to providing emergency cover for conditions that cannot wait till a routine appointment, inpatient care and one outpatient session Monday to Friday at the Theodore Hospital for those not wishing to access the services at the Theodore Medical Centre.
- Nursing staff triage all presentations and provide nursing level care according to prescribed rural protocols. Patients are requested to give a brief summary of complaint to allow staff to triage accurately. Non-urgent presentations (according to triage rating) will be seen by staff when time allows or may be asked to return at a later time.
- Outpatients must be registered at the hospital by 1:00pm
- The hospital has an extensive range of emergency and hospital medications and equipment but a limited range of outpatient medications and equipment and you may need to attend the Theodore Medical Centre or other centres if your medication or appropriate equipment is not available at the hospital.

- Theodore Medical, a privately owned general practice on the Hospital Grounds, Ninth Avenue, provides a comprehensive range of medical services including X-ray, ultrasound, ECG and an emergency/procedures room.
- As a practice looking after Theodore and surrounding districts, it is busy and looks after many complex health problems.
- Opening hours are from 8:30 to 5:30pm with routine appointments being accepted between 9:30 and 5:15pm except on Thursday afternoon when the doctor goes to Cracow to provide and outreach clinic.
- To assist Theodore Medical staff in assessing and meeting your health needs, please bring your medical history, Medicare card and concessions cards.
- Residents and temporary residents including “Grey Nomads” who are on pension or health care cards are routinely bulk-billed. To access these discounts, please identify yourself as a temporary resident. Others are billed with a $40 gap payable at the time of consultation.
Medications and Prescriptions
- The Theodore Pharmacy is located in the Boulevard and is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 12:00pm.
- Theodore Medical can also dispense non-PBS or private scripts for your convenience and after-hours needs if medications are as a result of an after-hour’s consultation.
