Points of Interest

Student Accomodation

4 Hamilton Street Theodore. An air conditioned two bedroom unit with fully equipped kitchen and laundry is provided by Anne and Bruce Chater for students to stay whilst in Theodore. The unit is situated next door to where Anne and Bruce live. There is a queen size bed and a king single. Sheets and towels are provided. There is a family size refrigerator which with a reasonable size deep freeze. There is a clothes dryer, an ironing board and iron; as well as a hair dryer. Keeping the unit neat and tidy is student responsibility and there is cleaning equipment to do so. There is a swimming pool on the grounds which students may use. It is an easy 5 minute walk from the unit to the surgery. There is wireless in the unit – ask for password. Feel free to bring your own pillow if you would like to.

Food

Come with a starter pack of groceries. IGA shuts at 1.00 pm Saturday and is not open on a Sunday. As well, the first few days at the surgery will be busy and you may not have time to shop.  If you have any special dietary needs, please make sure you pack these items as IGA Theodore may not stock what you need.

Other Special Requirements

An example would be contact lens solutions. If you wear contacts, it would also be a good idea to pack a pair of glasses just in case.

Security

This is a very safe town. It would be very, very unlikely that anything untoward would happen in Theodore – not even petty theft. However, still need to be sensible.

Bugs

Rid and Aerogard are handy to have in warmer months. Bugs, spiders and mice are part of being in the bush. After a fresh in the Dawson River, the sand flies can savage. Rid is the best product to combat sand flies. Call Anne if you have a pest problem or set a trap for the mice or spray with Mortein.

Snakes

Occasionally snakes are spotted. They are generally just moving through. Leave them alone but keep an eye on where they go.

Climate

Theodore has a sub tropical climate. Hot, wet summers, dry cold winters. If coming in winter be prepared for some quite cold weather. Extra blankets would be a good idea. If coming in summer, pack your “togs”.
